Would I buy it? Abso-freaking-lutely. Just waiting for the money to do so.
My Thoughts:
These characters were so completely and utterly easy to fall in love with.
Nicholas aka Coal is grumpy, sad, and completely hilarious and easy to love. He is not dedicated to anything except his brother and the seeming destruction of his life including kissing a hot as hell stranger behind a bar. He is the epitome of longing, constantly thinking about this strange, mysterious bar worker. He loves Christmas, in the same way that I love the winter holidays, when it’s filled with memories of family, of giving and warmth and joy, and less about competition in giving the best present, or who can win in the corporate world.
Hex. What can I say about Hex? I adore him? He’s lowkey hilarious and no one would expect it from him which is actually somehow even better. He wears CORSET VESTS. I adore a man that cares about fashion. His angst became my angst, his jokes made me laugh out loud and god, the love he feels for his holiday and family just made me want to swoon.
These characters, even with their connection to two very different holidays and my complete and utter lack of magic powers (sadly) were very easy to connect with. They both made me laugh and smile, but also made my heart hurt in equal measure.
And don’t even get me started on the side characters. How much do I ADORE Iris? (The Easter Princess!) and Coal’s brother Kris? So much. The group of friends is hilarious and they all love each other so much it quite frankly fills me with warmth to even think about it.
The plot of this book was extremely easy for me to fall into, and seemed almost comic bookish, but in the best way. It is over the top, but somehow remains grounded in some sort of reality, like a corporate thriller might.
Also a PR plotted arranged marriage between holidays? Low key amazing. I love the thought of it and could so easily picture the sons of Christmas (Coal and Kris), the son of Halloween (Hex), and the Princess of Easter (Iris).
There’s fakery within the fakery, and comedy abounds and the villain? Well, you’ll just have to read to find out.
This book had me pick it up, and wouldn’t let me put it down and I am not mad about it.
The only thing that made me mad about this book? I got it from the library to save money and now? Well now I need to own it.
This book is those who love a mysterious almost hookup, fake dating but as friends, enemies-to-lovers(ish) and sacrificing yourself for love. Don’t worry though, this is a true romance.
